Work Abroad
The first work abroad program i have found that i am interested in is a winter program in Canada. I’d be able to choose my date to arrive and spend up to 6 months in Canada working in one of it’s “outstanding” ski areas. The program is through a company called BUNAC that provides worldwide travel insurance and work authorization. The Canadian sponsor is SWAP (Student Work Abroad Programs) provides accommodations and social programs. They also provide advice on bank accounts and phone cards. A benefit is that there are no express or extra fees after your tuition and travel. My goal in this program would to be successful in my job while abroad and become comfortable in a different environment and working situations with other people.
The next program is being an “au pair” in Greece. Being an au pair literally means being living as an equal and entails taking care of and befriending the children of the family. “This program provides single women and sometimes men over 18 and normally under 27 the chance to study a language and culture while living as part of a family abroad. The demand for live-in childcare is huge especially for young women.” I think this would be a great experience. I am very close with my family and would need the feel of being part of a family while being abroad. A positive is that i would be able to study to become proficient in french and or greek while living and hanging out with and taking care of kids. The only price of the “program” would be the plane ticket to get there.
Lastly, the third program i found is a summer work abroad program in Australia. The cost of the program is $595 and the program provides a place to stay. A 12 month work visa is needed and allows you to work and earn money in the foreign country. There are many options for jobs in Australia and include being a bartender, waitress, and a surf instructor. I would choose to be either a bar tender, to make lots of money or a surf instructor because i love to surf and would adore spending time in the water spreading the love of surfing.
My top choice for right after i graduate would be the trip to work in Canada because it would be cheapest in the long run and very enjoyable. I love to snow board and the ski resort atmsphere. I would have fun meeting people i have that in common with and would have fun making friends. Also it would be easiest for my family to come and visit me while being there, and that is very important to me.
In order to prepare this program i would have to save money for while to be able to pay for the trip and costs of travel, stay, and fun while there. I would also have to be successful through college and be able to support myself after the trip when i return home and have to either star working or go back to school. The deadline for application to the program is January 1st the year prior to your planned arrival on your trip.
